Top 9 Misconceptions of CrossFit

Misconception

While CrossFit has gained huge popularity over the last several years, many misconceptions remain. If you have questions about CrossFit, that’s great! We are tackling the top misconceptions about CrossFit in this post, which will hopefully help you understand more about what we do here at CrossFit Gardendale and why you should get involved!

CrossFit is Unsafe
This is a misconception. Actually, the opposite is actually true! Here at CrossFit Gardendale, our coaches are trained and experienced. When you are working out at the gym, there is little to no supervision; however, when you work out at CrossFit, our coaches are always there to ensure you are safe and motivated.

CrossFit is for Fit People
WOD’s (Workout of the Day) are designed for individuals of all levels of experience and fitness. You certainly do not need to be ultra-fit or even a little bit fit before joining. Plus, here at CrossFit Gardendale, we have a Beginners On-Ramp program that helps individuals who are new to CrossFit learn all of the movements before jumping in. A WOD can appeal to such a wide audience by being scalable – you work with the weights and reps that challenge you at your level.

All CrossFit Locations are the Same
Not all CrossFit locations are the same. Some focus on different aspects of CrossFit and prioritize different areas. Here at CrossFit Gardendale, our focus is on motivation and community! We believe that with the right community behind you, you can achieve all of your strength, fitness, and health goals.

CrossFit is Competitive
While we do love a good competition, most of the time, CrossFit is not about competing with others, it is about being better than who you were yesterday. That’s why this is a misconception. You are your biggest competition!

CrossFit is All or Nothing
Our CrossFit family is comprised of individuals who love CrossFit, as well as a ton of other hobbies and activities outside of CrossFit! When you join CrossFit, you do not have to give up all of your other favorite forms of fitness, you can do a variety of things that you love.

CrossFit is Time Consuming
Unlike workout programs that take hours in the gym, a WOD is 45 minutes of good, clean, hard work. Though we would love to see you at CFG every day, you are not required to commit to WOD’s daily. Jump in on classes that fit your schedule – even if that changes from time to time!

CrossFit is a Fad
We plan to be around for a long, long time! CrossFit has already been around since 2000 – nearly two decades to date. While CrossFit may change over time, this is a misconception because it is certainly not a fad and is a well-thought-out workout with many benefits, as demonstrated by its wide community of participants.

CrossFit is Focused on Speed, Rather Than Form
While our workouts may be high-intensity, form is very important here. Our coaches are more than just motivators and challengers, they are there to help ensure you are safe while you workout.

CrossFit is Only About Fitness
This is a big misconception. Here at CrossFit Gardendale, we have an in-house nutritionist. CrossFit is a great place to start with your fitness, but we know nutrition is a huge component of fitness and health as well. Our nutritionist helps our community with nutrition check-ups, custom MACROs, and personalized meal plans to help stay on track with their health, even when not doing a WOD.
