CrossFit Gardendale Member Spotlight! Kellie Morton tells us a little about herself and her CrossFit Gardendale journey. We are so proud of Kellie and all of her hard work!
Tell us a little about yourself:
I am married to my best friend Brent Morton and I am a mom to 4 awesome kids Ella Jane, Baylor, Wyatt and Anna Claire. In my free time, I am a registered nurse at Children’s South Surgery.
What made you start CrossFit Gardendale?
I had been working out and doing some of the fitness classes at the Civic Center for about a year after my third child was born and not seeing the results that I wanted. I have known Chad and his family for a long time and thought I would give it a try. I fell in love immediately!
I had always played sports and I even played volleyball in college and I had never gotten a workout like this. A short time after I started CrossFit, I found out that I was pregnant with baby #4 and I was advised by my doctor to do something not so strenuous because of some complications (although I totally support CrossFitting preggo!!) I started back the day of my 6 week check-up and I haven’t stopped.
How long have you been CrossFitting?
For the second time approximately 15 months!
Describe your first workout?
I honestly don’t remember, but I’m sure I whined a lot!
What is your favorite and least favorite lifts/movements?
My favorite lifts are power cleans, thrusters and snatches. Least favorite movement is kettle bell swings, I don’t know why, I just hate them.
What goals have you accomplished so far and what goals do you plan to accomplish?
My greatest goal has been to not want to be skinny anymore. I even hate the word! I just want to be strong and healthy. And I just did my first pull-up! Yay!! I also ran my first half marathon this year! There is no way I could have done that without CrossFit Gardendale. Also, being a good influence on my kids, they comment on how strong I am and they are always wanting to go to CrossFit with me.
What hobbies or things do you like to do other than CrossFit?
I have four children! They are my hobby and CrossFit is my therapy. I tell my husband it’s cheaper!
What, if anything, has changed in your life since joining CrossFit Gardendale?
I have always been active and worked out so probably the biggest thing that has changed is my eating. You feel so much better when you fuel your body for living instead of just eating crap.
What advice would you give to any new members?
Just try it! Anyone at any fitness level or athletic ability can do this. Granted it may not be for everyone, but you can do it. Once you try it you will be hooked. CrossFit is more than a gym, we are family and a community. Some of my closest friends are who I work out with every day!
