Tell us a little about yourself:
I am a wife, mom and 3rd grade teacher at Erwin Intermediate School. My husband Jason Hamer and I have three beautiful girls: Tanner, 16; Laci, 9; and Chloe, 6.
What made you start CrossFit Gardendale? My husband and I decided that we needed to eat healthy and get active. I remember him first telling me that he was going to join Crossfit Gardendale and asked me if I would join. I told him that he was crazy, because I could not lift weights and do those hard workouts. He signed me up after his first two months of amazing results. Three years later, I am still at Crossfit and loving every minute of it! So I guess I should give my husband a big shout out for encouraging me to try it. Now I am hooked!
Describe your first workout?I can't remember the WOD, but I do remember being so happy that I finished the workout. I also remember being so incredibly sore. It was a challenge to get out of the bed, walk up the stairs and even sit on the toilet. Ha! Needless to say, I was very out of shape.
What goals have you accomplished so far?My biggest goal was to do a Crossfit competition. So far, I have done the Gridiron Games, 2017 Crossfit Open, Rep Your Gym, and Tuff Love Competition.
What goals do you plan to accomplish?I am going to continue doing Crossfit competitions. I feel like competitions are a good goal for me. It keeps me at the gym and working hard every day. Some movements that I want to accomplish are pull-ups, DUs, and HSPU.
What hobbies or things do you like to do other than CrossFit?With being a working mom and wife, there is not really time for any other hobbies. The majority of my time is dedicated to my family. My girls keep me pretty busy!
What, if anything, has changed in your life since joining CrossFit Gardendale? One thing that has changed is the amount of time I spend at the gym. I use to do Crossfit three to four days a week. Now, I go almost every day of the week. I have seen the most change in my body and workouts by going daily. I am officially addicted to Crossfit!
What advice would you give to any new members? My advice would be to not worry about what everyone else is doing. Just focus on yourself and what you can do. Make goals so you will keep working hard and improving daily. Most importantly, change your eating habits. Eating healthy is just as important as working out. It is truly a lifestyle change but totally worth it. You will be fit, healthy and working out at the best box in town!!
