Name: Jennifer Wright
Tell us a little about yourself:
My dad was in the Army so I grew up moving around the US and Europe and loved it! My husband William and our two children have been lucky to call Gardendale our home for the last 12 years. Most days you will find me in the city at work where I am the Vice President of Human Resources for Hoar Construction. It is my dream job!!!What made you start CrossFit Gardendale?
My awesome friend Deidre asked me every single month for one year to join. Every month I had an excuse. I can't, my kids are busy.....I can't, I have to travel.....I can't, I have never done anything with weights. You name it, I had every excuse. On January 2016, I ran out of excuses and showed up for on-ramp. There was my friend each night right beside me. In the back of my mind, I kept saying I will go for a few weeks and then she won't ask me to go anymore!.Describe your first workout?
My first WOD was a partner workout on 1/15/2015. I got a text from Deidre that said "come to noon and be my partner" I showed up, we did the WOD and I surprisingly I did not die. There are many times I have been proud at something I have accomplished at CFG and many times I have been truly humbled by a move or WOD, (JT gets me every time). I remember feeling pure joy and excitement yet so humbled and completely sore when I completed my first whole MURPH in May 2016.What goals have you accomplished so far?
To most my goals will seem so silly or simple. . I had goals like most beginners do like RX'ing a WOD and being able to do pull ups and double under's. I may be really old once I hit the pull up goal. My first goal and one that will always stay on my goal sheet is to never miss. In two years, I have NEVER missed. Even on vacation weeks, I made sure to squeeze in a WOD before we flew out or right when we got back I am a planner by nature so I schedule my workout on my calendar each week. I had to learn that it was okay to do spend time on me. CFG is something I do for me, it makes me a better mom, wife, daughter, sister, friend and employee! What goals do you plan to accomplish?
One day I am going to do those pull ups and double under's, they are still part of my goal list. This year, I am also focusing on nutrition to go hand in hand with the programming. I never new before joining CFG how important the two are in concert, especially as you age. For most of my teen and adult years, I would just not eat to stay "skinny", I want to make sure my daughter sees something different. I bring her with me to CFG so she can see strong people of all ages and genders and at home she and I are tackling nutrition. What advice would you give to any new members?
Every emotion that you may be feeling once you join has been felt by someone in the box, you are not alone. Be consistent! You will have great workouts and terrible workouts but each of those workouts build you physically or mentally. Set goals and cross them off but revisit those goals that you have accomplished from time to time and keep them in front of you, they are important and part of your journey!
