If you’re anything like me you are always looking for new CrossFit gear to wear to the box. One cool thing about CrossFit is that yes, the workout may almost kill you, but you can look good in the process.
We can scroll through Instagram and see all the cool swag that our favorite athletes are wearing and say, “If I just had a sponsorship with Rogue,” (we all wish that) or you can read this blog, save some money, read these rules, check out some of these links, and take your Box Swag to a whole new level!
Rules to Step Up Your Box Swag:
1. Throw away the cotton shorts!
Most likely if you are wearing cotton shorts you are living in a time of nostalgia, where you were the captain of the football team, hair bands were “the thing”, and you spent your weekends “cruising”. While those times sound awesome, we live in a new time period; one where materials such as lycra and polyester are used to create a comfortable and sleek look for you in the box. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone wear cotton shorts in the box, but just in case anyone was ever thinking about doing so…consider yourself warned.
There are more things you can get away with in the shorts category because of the color schemes that are most popular (i.e., black, blue, military green).

2. Your Shirt Says it All
The most important article of clothing you will wear at the box is your shirt. People notice each other’s shirts. I would even go far as to say that people will judge what type of athlete you are based on your shirt. You can compliment on someone’s shirt and it is socially acceptable. Compliment someone’s shorts…that’s a little creepy.
When people are sizing up who their competition is going to be before the workout (believe me, everyone is looking for someone to beat), they may look over you because you are wearing a shirt that says “WODLIFE” with a kettle bell on it…but if you are wearing a Hanes Beefy T that says “Random Joe’s Lawn Care (555) 348-5901 ‘Kiss Your Grass Goodbye’”, you can guarantee someone is using you for motivation in the WOD.

3. The Hidden Element (Sock Game)
There is an up and coming trend in the sport of CrossFit thanks to guys like Elijah Muhammad and that is SOCKS! Yes, SOCKS!
You can get your box swag to a 7 by adding new shorts, you can most likely step it up to 9, at most, with new shirts…but to get the ever coveted 10 rating in the box and really show you mean business in the workout YOU MUST invest in a sock game.
So what is a sock game and how do you play it? Well, I’m glad you asked.
While the 24 pack of white socks you bought may seem convenient or a “steal” at the store; the only thing those socks will “steal” for you in the box is 5 points in your swag. The sock game is the extra effort you put into completing your workout outfit of the day. These are loud socks that compliment the color of your shirt or shorts. It takes a little bit of thinking however, because you can’t just put on blue and red argyle socks and wear them with black shorts and a yellow shirt…that’s just tacky! My rule is that the major color of the sock has to be present in the main shirt color or the ink of the shirt. If you want to get in the game or step up your current sock game check out the links below for some sock swag.
