Coming up with new year’s resolutions and goals for the upcoming year is easy, but how do you ensure you stick to them? With these four easy steps, you will be on your way to not only making great goals, but setting goals that stick. This will help you stick to your New Year’s Resolutions and achieve the things you would like to do in the new year! Give it a shot.
1. Select Attainable and Measurable Goals
Even if you do not stick to the rest of the steps in this guide, you will be on your way to a more successful goal simply by choosing one that is both attainable and measurable. An attainable goal is one that you know that you are capable of. It challenges you to improve while considering your abilities and skills. A measurable goal is one that is backed by a number. You want to lose weight? Great, how many pounds would you like to lose? This helps you have something to work towards, rather than going for an ambiguous goal.
2. Write The Down
Writing down your goal will serve as a continuous reminder of what you are working towards. Put the note somewhere you will see it everyday, so that you can stay focused on your goal. If your goals are fitness related, put the note by your fitness gear or by the door before you leave. If it is personal, place it in the mirror to see as you get ready each morning. Find the place, or multiple places, that work best for you and use it to keep you going.
3. Tell Someone to Keep You Accountable
Find someone you trust to keep reminding you of your goals and keep you accountable. This can be a good friend, family member, or partner. The person you pick should be someone who is not afraid to call you out when you are slacking and someone that will push you to be your best. Maybe this person is working towards the same or similar goal. Work together to accomplish what you set out to do!
4. Make a Plan
The final step for setting a goal that sticks is making a plan. If you want to try cooking a new dish once a week, for example, how will you accomplish it? Will you plan the recipes ahead of time or will you pick the dish that night? Think about how you are going to execute your goal in a way that works best for you. Find small steps you can take towards your large goal and you will succeed.
Use these four steps to easily reach any goal you set for yourself as we approach the New Year!
